Commissioner Adam Silver has nothing but praise for the #1 pick in the 2023 NBA draft, Victor Wimpanyama of the San Antonio Spurs.
Wimpanyama had a rocky start in the Summer League before bouncing back in their second game. However, Tottenham has already locked him out for the remainder of the Summer League.
Silver ran into reporters during News agency Sports Editors Conference on Monday in Las Vegas. One of the questions that confronted the commissioner was about Wimpanyama, who stormed into the league.

He talked about how he admires the French prospect’s maturity for his age and ability to handle pressure:
“I got a chance to spend some time with him in New York around the draft,” said Silver. “I also met him when we played a regular season game in Paris in January. My initial reaction was that he is an amazing young man.
“I don’t even want to warn about it with the young man, because he just seems like an amazing guy. Mature beyond his years, worldly, cultured, thoughtful and also has the ability to do amazing things in this league.” (free ESPN)
Victor Wimpanyama made his NBA Summer League debut on Saturday against Brandon Miller and the Charlotte Hornets. However, Wimpanyama struggled off the field and looked lost on the field. He was also overpowered and drowned during the match.
The “Wimpy” finished with nine points at 2-13. He grabbed eight rebounds and blocked eight shots, but many fans focused on the negatives. He even looked gassed in the second half, which left some fans worried about his inability to slip past young defenders.
In a post-match interview, the 19-year-old admitted he needed to work on his conditioning:
“I think there are a lot of conditions that need to be made to play in an 82-game season,” Wimpanyama said.
“We’re running a lot. It’s really stressful. Even though the game was 40 minutes tonight when I came off, I was always tired and tired, so I think there’s a lot of conditioning to do.” (free San Antonio Express News)

Victor Wimpanyama performs in his second Summer League game
Wimpanyama turned in a much better performance for the San Antonio Spurs in their second game of the Summer League on Sunday. Wimpy finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in the Spurs’ 85-80 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. He also shot 9-14 from the court and 7-12 from the free throw line.
The 7-foot-5 quarterback looked much more comfortable on Sunday than he did in his debut. The pressure seemed to subside and he let the match come to him. However, fans will have to wait until the start of the season to see more from Wembanyama, who has been suspended for the rest of the summer league by Tottenham.
