Kyiv: Russia attacked Kyiv A drone strike occurred overnight, causing minor damage, authorities said on Tuesday, as NATO leaders prepared for a summit focused on supporting Ukraine against an invasion by Moscow.
“The enemy attacked Kiev from the air for the second time this month,” the Kiev military department said on its Telegram account.
It added that the attack used explosive Iranian-made drones launched from the south, most likely from Russia’s Krasnodar region.
It added that “all air targets detected moving in the direction of Kiev were destroyed by the forces and means of our air defense,” without specifying the number of downed drones.
The Kiev interior ministry said the wreckage of a drone had been found in an undisclosed location in the Kiev region.
“Windows and outbuildings of private homes were damaged,” it added, adding that there was no immediate information on casualties.
Kiev, which has been relatively spared from attacks since the start of the year, faced frequent nighttime airstrikes in May.
The western port city of Odessa was also targeted in a nighttime drone strike, according to Sergey Prachuk of the local administration.
He said that the air defenses had been activated, without going into details.
Air alerts have also been reported in Mykolaiv, Kherson, Kirovograd, Poltava, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
NATO leaders are set to grapple with Ukraine’s membership ambitions on Tuesday at their summit in Vilnius, their resolve to take on Russia buoyed by a breakthrough in Sweden’s bid to join the alliance.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky He is expected to head to the Lithuanian capital to prove that Kiev has the right to join when the Kremlin conquest is over.
