Lionel Messi’s new Inter Miami staff have announced that they have brought Swiss logistics company Fracht Group on board as their new sponsor.
Messi, 36, put an end to speculation about his future by announcing he had joined Inter Miami last month. The Argentine star, whose contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired on June 30, refused a mouth-watering sum from the Saudi club Al-Hilal to move to the United States.
It should be noted that Messi is not officially an Inter Miami player yet, as his agreement with the NBA has not yet been finalized. However, the club’s co-owner Jorge Mas recently revealed that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner would earn between $50 and $60 million each year.
Furthermore, MLS and Apple could offer the superstar a portion of the revenue generated from subscriptions to the MLS Season Pass, the league’s broadcast package, on Apple TV+. Adidas, the league’s other major sponsor, has prepared a similar profit-sharing agreement for the Argentine.
MLS and its sponsors have done their best to entice Messi to move to the United States because it would benefit the growth of the league – both commercially and quality-wise. Inter Miami, for example, is already reaping the rewards of its association with the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.
The Herons notably announced a multi-year partnership with logistics group Fracht on Monday (July 10). The company’s name will be displayed on the right sleeve of the team’s kits starting Saturday (July 15), when they face St. Louis in the MLS away from home game.
Fracht, who will pay Inter Miami three times more than former sleeve sponsor Xmanna, will be looking forward to their moment under the spotlight when Messi is unveiled the following evening. The event, called “The Unveil,” is set to take place at MLS club DRV PNK Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale.
Lionel Messi meets Sergio Busquets at Inter Miami
Aside from the commercial benefits, signing Lionel Messi also helps Inter Miami attract big-name players. They have already roped in former Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets on a free transfer. The Spaniard notably played 567 times for the Argentine icon during their time with the club Blograna.
The Heron have brought in Argentine tactician Gerardo Martino as their new boss since announcing the imminent arrival of Lionel Messi. It is worth noting that the coach was in charge of Barcelona for the 2013-14 season. He also worked with the former Paris Saint-Germain star during his stint as Argentina coach between 2014 and 2016.
Meanwhile, Inter Miami is said to be close to signing Jordi Alba. The left-back, like Busquets, had his contract expired after leaving Barcelona. He played 345 matches across competitions with Lionel Messi during their two years at Camp Nou.
Lionel Messi is expected to make his debut for Inter Miami in the League Cup match against Cruz Azul in the Mexican League on July 21.
