The American League and National League each released their starting lineups ahead of the 2023 All-Star Game on Tuesday.

Although it cannot be denied that both squads will feature the best talents of the respected leagues, it is impossible to please everyone.

After Paul Skenes emerged as the first overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft on Sunday, baseball fans will be spoiled with the Home Run Derby ahead of the MLB All-Star game at T-Mobile Park in Seattle on Tuesday.

“AL Starting Lineup” – Bob Nightingale

While the MLS will certainly feature some of the best players of the moment, fans on Twitter were quick to slam the selections. Notably, the 2022 home run champion and single-season record holder, Aaron Judge, will miss the game due to the injury he sustained in his toe last month.

@tweet Rangers fans have been working on those cards 🤷🏼‍♂️

Four of the nine American League starters in the 2023 All-Star Game are played by the Texas Rangers. This has led some to accuse the league of skewing the numbers in favor of the second best club in the AL.

@tweet One of the worst AS formations I’ve ever seen. Thanks Rangers fans.

The Canadiens were also outraged when they learned that none of the Toronto Blue Jays players would start. In the weekend prior to the vote, three Jays players drove in their spots. This prompted some bumbling spectators to accuse the League of meddling.

@tweet I have to admit this is one of the worst star formations ever.

For the second season in a row, and third time overall, Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker will coach the AL. Although the Astros are the defending World Series champions, the club has some serious work to do in the second half if they want to get back into the playoffs this year.

@tweet That’s what you get when Dusty runs the worst lineup in ASG lamo history

Nostalgia may have taken over, but many fans have compared the former ASG members to the 2023 All-Star squad. The prevailing notion seems to be that the generic talent represented in the Midsummer Classic has been anything but a downward trajectory.

@tweet I can say with confidence that this is ASG’s worst lineup in over 15 years

@tweet Coming into the season, you’d think this was an 86-win team

The 2023 All-Star Game is, in fact, a democratic game

While fans are happy to pile on the critiques of the 2023 All-Star picks, they themselves are responsible for the names in the business. If the league wanted to “democratize” the All-Star selection process, fans would have an unprecedented say in an important baseball tradition, if not, they would have no substantial grounds for their criticism.
