Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Garry Tonon is now more confident in his success and feels he can do well if his fights go there.

The Lion Killer returns to action July 14 at ONE Fight Night 12 on Prime Video. He faces Russia’s Shamil Jasanov in a mixed martial arts showdown at featherweight.

The contest is part of a nine-match show that takes place at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, and is available for free to Prime Video subscribers in North America.

Leading up to the marquee fight, Gary Tonon said that aside from his jiu-jitsu skills, his improved shot would play a role in his scheduled fight. The 31-year-old New Jersey native told ONE Championship in an interview:

“I feel like my stand-up game is pretty good and it’s at an elite level and I can hang with anyone for the most part.”

Gary Tonon pummeled him for consideration for a title shot again in January, when he made short work of fellow American fighter Johnny Nunez by submitting to a first-round kimura.

He competed for the World Featherweight Championship title in March last year against then-champion Than Lee, but was thwarted by a first-round knockout.

Shamil Jasanov, for his part, made his second appearance on ONE after winning in his promotional debut last October. ‘The Cobra’ was the winner in the first round via a naked choke on Kim Jae-woong of South Korea in his first outing.

He was initially scheduled to return in February this year against former top division world champion Martin Nguyen, but had to pull out days before fight night due to injury.

Now healthy, Shamil Jasanov is looking forward to restarting his campaign with the aim of competing for a world title in the future.
