Congress on Wednesday appointed MP Deepak Baig as the head of the Chhattisgarh unit, replacing Mohan Markam.
The replacement comes ahead of state assembly elections scheduled for later in the year.
“The party appreciates the contribution of outgoing PCC Chairman Mohan Markam, MLA,” read the general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) KC Venugopal.
Beg was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bastar constituency in Chhattisgarh.
Markham was appointed as the Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in June 2019 and was due to be replaced. He is an MLA from Kondagaon constituency.
