The excise department allowed the establishment of microbreweries and the sale of draft beer in the national capital.
About seven entities have applied for microbrewery licenses, officials said, and five have been approved and activated.
“There were provisions for microbreweries and draft beers under the now repealed Delhi Tax Policy 2021-22 but they were not implemented as the revised terms and conditions under the new policy were not notified on time. However, under the old system, we agreed to the terms. provisions and allow microbreweries to set up in Delhi.
The official added that the department has conducted inspections at more places and is awaiting approval from the Delhi Pollution Control Commission (DPCC). Once the work is completed, the two entities will also get approval soon, said an official.
According to a listing from the department, Effingut in Saket, Evergreen in Janpath, Ministry of Beer in Connaught Place, Royal Brewery at Hotel Royal Plaza, and Fort City Brewery in Hauz Khas Market are in operation.
The two companies that have also applied for licenses are Route 4 at Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj and Flow Brew and Dine at DLF Avenue Mall in Saket.
People, especially young people, prefer fresh beer to synthetic, canned or bottled beer. There is also a high demand for fresh beer, so it will generate revenue and people will have options.
With the new terms and conditions, more businesses, restaurants and hotels with L-16, L-17, L-18 and L-19 licenses can apply to set up microbreweries. Interested owners will have to apply for an L-11 retail license to brew beer by their microbrewery.
Subject to the terms, a microbrewery may be established where draft beer is made and served to customers for consumption on premises with an installed capacity of not more than 500 liters per day, subject to approval by DPCC on pollution control and project report submission. However, the price of this beer is not decided by the excise department.
The official said licensees set the price of lager beer.
