Colin Castleton is one of the many rookies who fit in with the Los Angeles Lakers in the Summer League. Through his first set of matches, he managed to turn heads with his stellar play.

The Lakers signed Colin Castleton to a two-way deal after he went undrafted this year. He is a 6-foot-11 center who played five years in college before turning pro.

So far in the Summer League, Castleton is averaging 15.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.5 blocks. His play early on had many wondering if the Lakers could find another uncut gem that could turn into a key piece for them.

If he can continue to prove himself, Castleton could follow a similar path to current Lakers guard Austin Reeves. Oddly enough, both players are represented by the same agent. This allowed Castleton to get to know everyone early on and He made his decision easier.

“I knew that with my agent[Aaron Riley, who represents Austin Reeves]he already knew everybody so you know, it’s kind of easy on draft night to know where I’m going and have a good shot.”

Can Colin Castleton follow a similar path as Austin Reavis?

The Los Angeles Lakers have been busy this season, but they don’t have much in the size department. With the opportunity to play in the frontcourt from now on, Colin Castleton could have a similar journey as now teammate Austin Reeves.

When Reeves signed two-way with the Lakers, he played sparingly at first. After getting consistent playing time, he proves he can take on more. Reaves played so well this season that he signed a four-year, $54 million contract in free agency.

Heading into next season, newly signed Jaxson Hayes will be the replacement for Anthony Davis. However, Castleton could still see some playing time as a junior. Hayes is a good athlete and can be effective at both ends, but his game never leaves the paint. On the other hand, Castleton is able to extend his game to the ocean.

The Lakers are all about finding cost-effective ways to fill out the roster. If Castleton can continue his development this next season, he could be the Lakers’ backup in the future.
