Barcelona are struggling to offload Clement Lenglet as Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly unwilling to live up to their assessment of the Frenchman.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham are reluctant to pay Lenglet’s €15m price tag. The French defender spent last season on loan with the Premier League giants but the deal did not include the option to buy.
Lenglet appeared 35 times across competitions, contributing three goals and helping the Lilywhites keep eight clean sheets. He has since returned to Barcelona but the Catalan giants are looking to sell this summer.
Spurs’ reluctance stems from their budget having in mind given they have already spent €136.3m this summer. Ange Postecoglou must work to rebuild a stagnant Tottenham squad but is not willing to drop Barcelona’s asking price for Lenglet.
The 28-year-old has three years left on his contract at the Camp Nou but is unlikely to challenge for a starting berth. He stands behind the likes of Ronald Araujo, Jules Conde, Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia in this regard. The Blaugrana also lured Inigo Martinez to the club, putting Lenglet’s future at risk.
Lenglet arrived in Barcelona in 2018 from Seville for 35.9 million euros. He played 160 matches, winning the Spanish League title and the King’s Cup.
Barcelona is ready to drop the asking price for Frank Casey
Franck Kessie is another Barcelona player whose future is uncertain after a rocky start at the Camp Nou. The Ivorian midfielder arrived last summer as a free agent but failed to impress.
Casey, 26, has only started seven of 28 league matches, scoring one goal and assisting one. He has been unable to cement a permanent place in Xavi’s starting line-up and the Spaniard is not convinced he is the right profile for his team.
Thus, Barcelona are willing to offload him just one year after his arrival. He has received interest from Serie A giants Juventus and Saudi Arabia.
According to SPORT, the Blaugrana are lowering their asking price to Juventus and will accept offers in excess of €15m. The Catalan giants were asking for between 30 and 35 million euros when they approached the Saudi clubs.
Casey may join Juventus as a replacement for Paul Pogba because the French player is getting attention from the Saudi Professional League. He is said to be available for just €10m this summer after a disastrous return for the Old Lady.
