In light of such incidents, Al-Dhami said his government is making regular updates on the condition of roads and the intensity of rainfall from all districts.
As torrential rains in northern India wreaked havoc, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dami on Wednesday reiterated his request for people to avoid non-essential travel as the downpour continued in the state. However, some people were seen endangering their lives by traveling on debris-strewn, landslide-prone roads. One such incident was seen on the Gangotri National Highway in Uttarakhand when people were caught risking their lives by crossing the damaged road.
“Our government has released disaster relief numbers to help the people of Uttarakhand who are stranded in various places of the state and in Himachal Pradesh,” Dhami said in a tweet.
In a video released by the news agency yearsPeople can be seen trying to walk across the highway with great difficulty. The video went viral just two days after a rock hit three cars on the highway, killing four pilgrims and injuring six others.

Meanwhile, officials said three people drowned in the Khoh Buri River area as rain continued to fall in parts of the state. The accident occurred on Tuesday night when a vehicle lost control and fell into the river in Kotdwar district of the district. Police said that while three of the vehicle’s occupants drowned in the river, two others got out of the vehicle at the appointed time.
They said the government’s disaster response force has recovered the body of one of the victims – Muhammad Israr (35), a resident of Kiratpur district of Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. Many roads in the state, including the National Highways, have been closed due to landslides that followed the incessant rains, affecting normal life as well as the Chardham Yatra.
As of Tuesday, nine visitors have been killed and 13 injured due to landslides and rocks falling on the roads. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heavy rains will continue to lash the state on Tuesday and Wednesday, giving officials a way to take adequate precautions.
Another rock fell near Darasu on the Gangotri Highway, severely affecting its traffic and making it difficult for pilgrims to reach the Dham River. A video shared by ANI shows the same thing.
