Devastated by floods amidst heavy rains, a woman allegedly slapped Janayak Janta Party (JJP) MLA Eshwar Singh in Haryana.

In a viral video, a flood victim can be seen slapping Singh in Guhla as he visits flood-affected areas.

“Why did you come now?” asked the flood victim.

Earlier in the day, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar conducted an aerial survey of the areas affected by the three-day continuous rains. He also announced a Rs 4 lakh ex gratia for the relatives of those who died in rain-related accidents.

He indicated that financial assistance will be provided to the poor and others whose homes were damaged by the rains.

A total of 10 rain-related deaths were reported in some of the affected areas. Khattar said food packages, water tanks and animal feed are being sent to the affected areas while people have been moved to safety.

With the flooding of the Markanda, Tangri and Ghaghar rivers, Ambala was the most affected, he said, adding that the districts of Yamunanagar, Keithal, Panipat and Panchkula were also hit by incessant rains recently.

CM said the water coming from Himachal Pradesh and Punjab has exacerbated the situation.

“In some places, there were record rains. Seven districts – Ambala, Panchkula, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Yamunanagar, Panipat and Keithal – were affected the most by the rains. But there has been relief since yesterday evening. Relief and rescue work has been going on,” Khattar said. It is in full swing.”

The prime minister said that all possible relief is being provided in the affected areas.

Khattar said that he asked the deputy commissioners to send a full report on the loss of life and property in the areas affected by the rains so that the amount of compensation can be determined. He conducted aerial surveys of about four to five districts to assess the areas affected by the heavy rains.

After that, Khattar held a meeting with the officers of the Ambala district administration, and reviewed the relief and rescue operations in the district.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister directed district administration officials to ensure timely drainage of water from waterlogged areas and to make arrangements for provision of food and other necessities to people living in such locations.

Citing the sowing season, he directed that the fields should be drained along with the drainage of rain water from residential areas.

The prime minister said that directives have been issued to all deputy commissioners to assess the losses caused by the rains in their districts.

The government will immediately repair the homes of poor families that have been damaged by the rain. He added that other departments will also receive assistance from the Disaster Management Fund, according to the loss.

He directed a notification to pay attention to cleanliness in the areas after the rain water has been drained to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases.
