PUNE City Police on Wednesday arrested two brothers in their early 20s for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl multiple times over a two-week period by threatening to harm her and her parents.
The accident occurred in an area located in the outskirts of Pune.
The incident sparked a protest by local residents at a police post on Thursday, calling on people to crack down on the arrested suspects.
The FIR in the case was recorded at a police station under the jurisdiction of the Pune City Police on Wednesday night, after which the two brothers, aged 24 and 22, were arrested by the police.
Officials from the police station said the incident came to light a few hours before the ticket was registered when the girl’s mother saw the two suspects near their home.
When the mother asked the girl about their existence, the girl opened up to her about repeated sexual abuse by the duo over a two-week period.
The inspector in charge of the police station said, “We arrested the two brothers, whose ages ranged between 24 and 22, immediately after the case was registered.”
Officials said the two suspects own a nursery that sells plants and seedlings.
The police invoked the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) and provisions of the Indian Penal Code relating to rape.
On Thursday, a large number of local residents gathered at an outpost of the police station where the case was registered.
