It is reported by Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, that the Chennai Football Club has signed up striker Connor Shields for one year. The 25-year-old has worked out with Owen Coyle at Queen’s Park, who is set to take over the management of Marina Machan after nearly steering them to glory in 2020.

Although Scot International has a contract until 2024 with Motherwell, it is uncertain if the deal will include any transfer fees. It will be interesting to see how Shields fares in an entirely new environment after spending his time in Scotland and England.

Chennaiyin FC is close to signing Motherwell striker Conor Shields. The ISL club offers him a great wage package with a one-year contract. Shields spent the end of last season on loan at Queen’s Park. Their former boss Owen Coyle is set to become the manager of Chennaiyin.

The Coatbridge-born forward began his football career with Albion Rovers, a Scottish League One club based in North Lanarkshire in 2015. After a good spell with the Scottish team, he was picked up by Sunderland, who were plying their trade in the second tier of English football.

A failed move saw him not appear for two seasons for the first team. Connor Shield was eventually loaned out to Scottish Championship side Alloa Athletic. He hasn’t had the best of times, finding the net on only three occasions in 34 matches.

The striker had spells at Aldershot Town and Billericay Town, and Queen of the South, where he scored 11 goals in the Scottish First Division. Showing his ability in front of goal, Motherwell recruited him, but he failed to take off.

Despite taking the field over 50 times for Motherwell, Connor Shields scored just three goals, forcing him to seek a loan move. During his temporary stay at Queen’s Park, he scored five goals and assisted twice in 16 matches.

Owen Coyle will be hoping to include him in the starting line-up alongside experienced defender Jordan Murray in what could promise an enthralling season for the Blues.
