Ray Benjamin recently returned to the men’s 400m hurdles after an 8-week hiatus. The silver medalist at the Olympic and World Championships returned to the 2023 USATF Championships taking gold with a time of 46.62 seconds.
Critics of Ray Benjamin continue to question his performance and work ethic, with many calling him too afraid to appear in various competitions at the elite level.
The American blockbuster recently took to Twitter to respond to those who constantly question his abilities. Ray wrote about how impatient he finally got, and that was probably the last time he would ever respond respectfully. He also asked people to focus on themselves instead of him.
“Also, I’ll talk about this once. Don’t come to my page and harass me about my performance. I’ve been really respectful when addressing things about everything and everyone. I don’t want to be that person for everyone’s sake. Go touch the turf and focus on you,” he said.
Ray Benjamin is lining up to participate in the Monaco Diamond League, which will take place on July 21. A runner is scheduled to participate in this event if his or her health is at the required level.
Ray Benjamin believes he can break the 400m hurdles world record
The men’s 400m hurdles has become a hot topic in recent years, thanks primarily to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and subsequent World Championships.
The current top three times in the category have come during just those two events. Ray Benjamin ran the hurdles in 46.17 seconds at the Tokyo Olympics, which would have been WR had it not been for Norway’s Karsten Warholm, who took the Olympic and Champions League titles with a time of 45.94 seconds. Current world champion Alison dos Santos holds the third fastest time. Brazilian Benjamin overtook the 2022 World Championship title with a time of 46.29 seconds.
Benjamin recently stated that he believes he can beat Warholm’s time if he is more efficient with his running style.
“I think it could go a lot faster in my opinion. I feel like I’m the one who could definitely do that if I figured out my life and if I figured out how to run this event more efficiently than I have in the last few years,” he said in an exclusive interview with Olympics.com.
With the track and field championships in August and the Olympics in Paris next year, only time will tell if Ray Benjamin returns to the spotlight and proves his critics wrong.
