Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sokho on Thursday conducted an aerial survey of the flood-hit town of Sangla in Kinnaur district, where he airlifted nine stranded tourists.

Due to heavy rains and landslides blocking traffic in parts of Himachal Pradesh, many tourists have been stranded in flood affected areas over the past few days. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sokho on Thursday conducted an aerial survey of the flood-hit town of Sangla in Kinnaur district, where he airlifted nine stranded tourists.

After conducting aerial surveys of Kullu, Mandi, Lahaul and Spiti regions, the Prime Minister visited the Sangla Barrage and Koba and interacted with families hit by flash floods.

About 118 tourists were evacuated by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and sent to Choling from where they started a road trip towards Shimla.

Among the stranded tourists were several rescued foreigners who thanked Sukho for its relief and rescue operations. He speaks to the news agency PTI“We were delighted to see the head of state personally supervising the rescue effort,” said an Israeli tourist named Tali.

A group of four tourists from West Bengal were also stranded in Sangla for the past five days and were flown as far as Choling. One of the rescued tourists told Shonali Chatterjee NDTVBesides getting medical help, we also got support from the local people.

Meanwhile, the state government said 91 people were killed from June 24 to July 13.
