Meanwhile, in Khanna town, residents of nearby villages blocked the Ludhiana-Delhi National Highway late Tuesday protesting the administration for not providing any relief during the floods. They said that even as water from gushing streams and local streams flooded their villages, nothing was done to control the situation.
“Despite requests from residents, a seasonal drain, called the Gabe de Poule, has not been opened along the National Highway, causing flood-like conditions in our homes,” the demonstrators said.
The protest was raised after the administration began work on draining the water by opening the seasonal drain. According to the statement from the district administration, the teams moved quickly and completed the water works at Gaib Di Puli by Wednesday night.

Buddha Nula continues to wreak havoc in the city
The polluted Nula Buddha continued to wreak havoc in the city of Ludhiana Wednesday and flooded into several colonies. The streets of CMC Colony, New Vijay Nagar, Puneet Nagar and some other residential colonies were flooded due to the water flowing from the nullah.
The slums on Tajpur Road were flooded again displacing many on Wednesday. Excess water also accumulated at a police station, some dairy complexes, a petrol station and other locations located on Tajpur Road.
The waters also entered Chander Nagar, Shivpuri, New Deep Nagar and Peeru Banda colony, among others.
An official said that teams of civil bodies are making efforts to drain the accumulated water from the affected areas. The teams had placed sandbags to reinforce vulnerable areas along the loom. In addition, machines were used to remove weeds from the gutter.
As a precautionary measure, the department closed the section of road opposite the City Bus Depot of the Civic Authority on Tajpur Road to traffic, suspecting possible damage due to high water levels at Buddha Nula.
A statement issued by the Commissioner of Ludhiana Civic Authority, Chinna Agarwal, said the water level of the loom has risen due to excessive flow from the upstream areas. She said that all efforts were made to strengthen the drains of Nala, pump water and fill the gaps with sandbags.
