Multiple trips by a South Mumbai resident woman to Pune where she stayed for just 20 minutes set off the alarm for the Mumbai Police Narcotics Control Cell (ANC) to bust an alleged network involved in supplying drugs to Pune from Mumbai with seven arrests.

The woman, a former schoolteacher identified as Succerino Fernandes (58), who lives at Kemps Corner in South Mumbai, was alleged to have been a carrier of the contraband given to her by Malad resident Anju Paul (57).

Prakash Jadhav (DCP) (Drug Control Cell) said, “It was the frequent trips to Pune by Fernandes late at night and her staying there for only 20 minutes at a time that prompted us to keep watch.” The investigation by Ghatkopar ANC revealed that she will take a shared taxi from Dadar. Then the police team set a trap and detained her on Tuesday night from Dadar. They found that she was carrying mephedrone. Raids were placed in multiple places at Kemps Corner, Malad, Virar and Pune.

Jadhav said five people, including two Nigerians and two women, were arrested. The officer said the police had arrested two alleged drug dealers from Pune who had taken delivery of the drugs from Fernandes.

The ANC team seized 58.20 grams of mephedrone and 15 grams of cocaine, valued at Rs 16,14,000.
