Secretary-General of the Muslim World League Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa saluted the Indian constitution, democracy and its cultural diversity for the “unique and peaceful coexistence” he witnessed in the country. An activist of moderate Islam, he said that India’s philosophy and traditions taught harmony to the world.

He praised the prime minister’s “passionate perspective” on inclusive growth, and said they agreed on the importance of working together to confront all aspects of extremism and hate, no matter where it comes from. Prime Minister Modi and Al-Issa discussed promoting interfaith dialogue, combating extremist ideologies, promoting world peace, and deepening the partnership between India and Saudi Arabia.

“I salute and salute the Indian leadership, population and constitution along with ancient traditions that have given the world a message of harmony,” Al-Essa said while speaking at the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF).
Al-Issa was a known anti-Islamic extremism, and had previously written about India’s tradition of harmony and tolerance despite the coexistence of more than 100 religions and languages.
“My interactions with the religious leadership of India made me realize that we need to uphold human values and stand together. The world can benefit from India’s wisdom because Indian philosophy has been beneficial to the progress of mankind,” he said, adding that India’s diversity of thought has left him impressed.
Our religion is humanity
Dr. Al-Essa said differences should be celebrated while remaining unified. “We believe we are different parts of the same tree. Our religion is humanity and we are all of the same lineage.
Stressing the need to find a solution to the misconceptions that are spreading, he said it was crucial to work on two fronts – education and protecting youth from propaganda. He said that misconceptions, hate theories and misperceptions accelerated the path from extremism to terrorism.
“To consolidate power, many leaders used hate speech to ensure their control and importance,” he said, adding that religious leaders at the time were isolated and not working to promote mutual understanding.
“Dialogue of religions is the only way to the future”
Dr. Al-Essa also said that interfaith dialogues can be instrumental in mitigating challenges, as there was a need to protect and guide the next generation to prevent civilizational clash.
The irony is that books that dispel hate are more prevalent than books that promote positive, pluralistic and constructive messages. To prevent a civilizational clash, we need to protect and guide the next generation from childhood.
He praised the Indian institutions and leaders, and said that they spoke of peace, tolerance and understanding rather than asserting their dominance unlike some organisations.
We need to stand up against narratives about a clash of civilizations and religious hatred. The peaceful coexistence that I witnessed in India is unique. Brute force does not lead to civilized supremacy. It is love, humanity and coexistence that win hearts.”
Bridge building project
Dr. Al-Issa also talked about how to call on religious leaders in various countries to deal with the deteriorating situation at the present time. He said, “We have sought to involve religious leaders in different countries, at the level of the United Nations, to deal with the deteriorating situation at the present time.”
He added, “We have involved the Secretary-General of the United Nations in the project of building bridges, but we need the participation and partnership of all.”
The President of VIF, S Gurumurthy praised Al-Issa for rightly pointing out that Indian leaders did not talk about governance and control as that was not India’s idea. Our sole mandate is the message of harmony. Every religion is like a frog in a well. He can only imagine the measurements of the circumference. It’s important to get out and see the world outside. This discussion with Dr. Al-Essa is like stepping out of our silos and seeing the world.
Gurumurthy said that only the rise of India, which is the cradle of the message of harmony, can achieve world peace. “Too much youthful blood has been spilled by global powers, who have misdirected youth for their own agenda.
