Escalating the ongoing war of words, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said Sena (UBT) President Udhav Thackeray had stabbed his party in the back, and it can only be described as treason. The attack comes days after Thackeray called Fadnavis “tainted” during his public rally in Nagpur.
In 2019, Udhav Thackeray stabbed us in the back. I used Modi Ji’s photos (during the campaign) and later collaborated with Congress and NCP.
He was addressing Mahavijay 2024, a program organized by the BJP’s state unit in Bhiwandi, which has set 152 seats in the upcoming assembly polls.
“Amitji told me that in politics, one can bear 10 insults, but never accept betrayal. If one does, they will not survive in politics.”
Drawing examples from the ‘samudra manthan’ and kootniti (diplomacy) of Lord Krishna in the Mahabharata, Fadnavis endorsed his party’s recent political actions, saying that it is necessary to swallow bitter pills to achieve important goals. In response to the allegations made against him about breaking up parties and families, Dy CM said he was acting on “dharma” and not “adharma”.
He told the party workers, “In this Samudra Manthan (which produced both poison and nectar), faith and patience are required.” Fadnavis cited stories of Lord Krishna’s actions which lead to the end of Duryodhana, Dronacharya and Ashwathama. He said, “When there is treason, one must act with diplomacy.”
“Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar are not new entrants in politics. They joined us after giving serious thought. Where there is injustice, Eknath Shinde will be born,” he said, adding that the alliance with Sina Shinde is an emotional one, while the alliance with the NCP It is a political alliance.
Fadnavis said he was not comparing any present-day individual to historical villains, but was providing examples to enable better understanding in light of today’s challenges.
Commenting on the opposition front against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Fadnavis said the doors of the BJP are open to all except the Congress and those engaged in appeasement politics.
Earlier, the BJP leader said that in 2019, “When alliance talks were in their final stage, Udhav told me that he had relinquished Amitbhai (Shah) for the post of CM. But Amit Shah refused to relinquish the post of Chief Minister, and asked me to end all talks. If he (Thackeray) would not agree to it. So the discussion ended. A few days later, a moderator approached me saying that Thackeray had given up on the idea of CM participating and wanted instead the seat of Palghar LS, which the party agreed to.”
Fadnavis revealed that after meeting Shah Thackeray in 2019, “The latter asked me to make amends on his behalf because he previously spoke out sharply against the BJP. And I did. But when the election results were not as desired, Udhav Thackeray said he had other options.” .
