Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is attracting interest from Galatasaray amid uncertainty over his future, according to Turkish daily Takvim.

The Gunners recently made their first acquisition of Kai Havertz in the summer, signing him from Chelsea for a reported £65m deal. They also have deals to bring in Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber from West Ham United and Ajax respectively for £145m.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are also offloading some of their players to balance their books. Granit Xhaka, 30, has joined Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen for £21.5m. Thomas Partey, Rob Holding and Nicolas Pepe could also leave the club.

Jorginho is another player linked with an exit this summer. Mikel Arteta’s side signed the defensive midfielder from Chelsea for £12m just six months ago. However, he was reported to have been brought in as a short-term solution after the club’s failed bid to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Consequently, Arsenal are considering cashing in on the Italy international, who has only 12 months left on his contract this summer. Turkey emerged as a potential destination for the 31-year-old, with Galatasaray interested in signing him.

Galatasaray has not yet approached Arsenal with an offer for Jorginho. They intend to discuss terms with the midfielder’s agent before making a move. The Super Lig club’s decision to pursue a deal will depend on whether his salary demands are within their reach.

Apart from Galatasaray, clubs in Italy, including Napoli, Milan and Lazio, also have Jorginho’s credit. It is worth noting that Lazio is managed by Maurizio Sarri, who brought the Italian with him when he took charge of Chelsea in 2018.

Jorginho did the job for Arsenal in numbers

Arsenal snatched in Jorginho from Chelsea in January in hopes the midfielder could help propel them to the Premier League title. Arsenal were top of the table when the Italy international arrived in north London. However, it exploded, allowing Manchester City to retain the title.

Jorginho made 16 appearances across competitions for Mikel Arteta’s side last season. He made nine appearances in the Premier League, mostly playing in his favored defensive midfield position. The Italian’s only contribution came in a 2-0 win away at Newcastle United, providing an assist for Martin Odegaard.

Jorginho has been linked with the rest of his Arsenal teammates for training ahead of the 2023-24 season. He appeared in their first pre-season friendly match against Nürnberg on Thursday (13 July) but scored an unfortunate own goal in a 1-1 draw.
