National award-winning film director and writer Vinod Mankara’s book From the Rocket Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Center (SDSC) is released here.
The unique launch of “Prism: The Ancestral Abode of Rainbow,” a collection of scientific articles, was held at SDSC-SHAR on Thursday night, as preparations were in full swing there for the country’s long-awaited Chandrayaan-3 moon mission. .
ISRO President Somanath released the book by handing it over to Vikram Sarabhai Space Center Director (VSSC) S Unnikrishnan Nair as the countdown to the historic launch progressed at the space centre.
Director of SDSC-SHAR A Rajarajan, Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Center (LPSC) V Narayanan, former ISRO Director K Radhakrishnan, and several other space scientists were in attendance along with Libby Akbar, the book’s publisher, and Libby Akbar, the book’s publisher.
Published by Kozhikode-based Lipi Books, ‘Prism’ is a collection of 50 interesting articles from various streams of science including space science, astronomy, biology, anthropology, and mathematics. It covers various topics such as James Webb Space Telescope, Dark Sky Tourism, Black Hole Confirmation, First Spaceflight of the dog Laika and so on.
Somanath himself wrote an introduction to the 167-page book in which he said it was filled with “masterpieces of science”.
“The Prism” is an exploration of the aesthetic and poetic aspects of science and will help the general public develop a close relationship with science and a sense of its beauty.
Mankara is the maker of “Yanam”, a scientific Sanskrit documentary on India’s historic Mars mission “Mangalyaan”.
He has won national and state awards several times, and has six films and 685 documentaries to his credit.
Among Mankara’s documentaries are “Chandranu Nere Choonduviral” on Chandrayaan-1 and “VSSC @ 60” marking the 60th anniversary of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. A new documentary on Chandrayaan-3 is also in the pipeline.
