According to L’Equipe, 18-year-old winger Angelo Gabriel is set to be loaned from Chelsea to Ligue 1 club Strasbourg. The Blues have reportedly agreed a ā¬15m deal for Gabriel with Santos. However, a much-loved favorite, Gabriel is not expected to be part of the Stamford Bridge club next season. Instead, the player is ready to join Strasbourg on a loan deal.
The American owner of the London club, Todd Boiley, recently completed the acquisition of the Ligue 1 team. Thus, the exchange of loans between the two sides could become a regular affair in the coming seasons. Gabriel played 32 matches for his current team, Santos, this season, scoring two goals and one assist.
He also represented Brazil at under-16 level during his career. While Gabriel could spend next season away on loan, with youth being the new theme for the west London-based club, the player is expected to feature for the Blues in the near future.
Fabrizio Romano recently gave an update on Gabriel’s transfer. He said (via The Chelsea Chronicle):
“The talent born in 2004 will complete the second part of the medical tomorrow and then travel to the USA with Chelsea. A deal of ā¬15m in fee – the club will decide on the loan after the USA tour.”
Angelo Gabriel has already won high praise for his performances with Santos. The youngster has been compared to Brazilian football legends like Neymar and Pele.
This is due to Gabriel’s ability on the ball. He’s a great dribbler. Fans find similarities between his gameplay and the aforementioned game legends.
Santos Ariel Horan recently told SporTV:
āI see a lot of potential in Angelo. He is a boy who loves to go for the goal. I really like Brazilian football, and Angelo plays Brazilian football. The essence of dribbling and facing the opponent is very important.ā
he added:
“He has a huge future. With hard work, he will be able to play not only in Santos, but I think that, in the future, he will be able to play in major leagues all over the world.”
Gabriel’s future looks bright. However, with the Blues already having the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke in their ranks, he may find it difficult to break into the first team straight away. Thus, the loan spell in Ligue 1 can be very effective for the Prodigy.
