CM Punk hasn’t had as much of an impact as he might have imagined since his return to AEW. Punk is currently helming the weekend show Collision, and while it’s there, the show hasn’t fared well in terms of ratings.

Wrestling legend Disco Inferno highlighted CM Punk’s stance on the latest episode of his show K100 w/ Konnan & Disco He said the former WWE Champion’s return to AEW was a mistake.

He said:

I will say that I was absolutely right again, and that I wasn’t interested in Punk returning, because if Punk wasn’t going to come back and do the angle with The Elite, I see that as a fake flag. AEW Collision does Rampage numbers. The show is basically Rampage. It’s easy to miss. Nothing happened. You couldn’t target a more specific target than Punk vs Joe did for Ring of Honor fans from 20 years ago. Who would be interested in that now besides returning fans from 20 years ago?”

Follow the disco:

“You took him back and immediately targeted his return to the more hardcore part of your fan base? Big mistake. He’s not interesting, he doesn’t draw because he doesn’t do anything people care about which has been a problem with this guy since day one there.” (from 01:32 to 02:56)

While it’s still too early to agree with the WCW veteran, if AEW and Tony Khan don’t come up with anything great on the creative side, then the second coming of CM Punk will unfortunately become an abject failure.

The wrestling veteran thinks CM Punk should take it upon himself to raise AEW’s ratings

Wrestling journalist Bill Apter was speaking on the latest episode of UnScripted by Sportskeeda when he suggested that CM Punk make it his goal to attract more viewers, given the dwindling ratings of AEW Collision.

Amputer said:

“Now that CM Punk has been there for a few weeks, it’s almost dependent on him to push up the ratings, the ratings, instead. And some of the shows he wasn’t in were just as good.” (from 12:44 to 13:10)

Punk is no stranger to captivating an audience, as he did so successfully during his stint with WWE when the company was at its nadir in the early 2010s. His feuds with John Cena and especially The Rock garnered worldwide attention and brought in numbers that helped keep WWE in the headlines.
