Modi is here for a two-day visit. On Thursday, Macron bestowed the country’s highest honor on Prime Minister Modi, making him the first Indian prime minister to receive the award. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister hailed the Bastille Day parade, part of France’s national holiday celebrations, as the guest of honour.

During his speech at the banquet where he raised a toast on Indo-French relations, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the friendship and similarities between the two countries.

“I congratulate the people of France on Bastille Day. It was a great pleasure and honor for me to celebrate Bastille Day with the people of France. French President Emmanuel Macron has awarded me the Legion of Honor. It is a matter of pride and honor for the 140 crore population of India. Prime Minister Modi said during the dinner Friday: I thank French President Emmanuel Macron and French First Lady Brigitte Macron for this honour.

“In the past 25 years, the world has faced many ups and downs and difficult times, but the friendship between France and India has continued to grow deeper. We contribute not only to the well-being of the two countries but also to global peace and security. Our partnership is a force for the global good,” he added.

Emmanuel Macron awarded Modi the Grand Order of the Legion of Honor, the highest degree of the French Order of Merit, which “hails the prime minister’s role in the excellent relations of friendship and trust that unite France and India,” according to the French presidency. statement.

“With great humility, I accept the cross of the Legion of Honor,” Modi said in a tweet in French, next to photos of him and Macron during the awards ceremony held at the Elysee Presidential Palace on Thursday evening.

The French Legion of Honor is awarded to both military and civilians for achievement and service to the nation. It dates back to 1802, when it was introduced by Napoleon Bonaparte, and has five degrees, starting with the chevalier and ending with the Grand Cross.
