The police official said that the main accused is a history writer who was released from prison in June this year in connection with a murder case.
Police said the incident occurred on July 10 when some people with motorbikes shot the girl and her friend when they were returning home on a motorbike after attending classes at a training centre.
Police have arrested seven people from different parts of the country, including Maharashtra and Delhi, in connection with the killing of a 17-year-old girl, who was shot dead earlier this week in the city of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, a senior official said.
Police said the incident occurred on July 10 when some people with motorbikes shot the girl, who was a student of class 11, and her friend when they were returning home on a motorbike after attending classes at a training centre.
The victim died during treatment the same night, while her friend sustained injuries, they said. The police have arrested a total of seven people in connection with the case. Additional Director General of Police D. Srinwas Verma told reporters Thursday night that three of them were taken into custody from Maharashtra, two from Delhi and one from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
The main accused in the case, Sumit Rawat, was arrested from Dhuli in Maharashtra, and when he was brought to Gwalior, he tried to escape from Panihar village under the pretense of heeding the call of nature but fell into a ditch and sustained injuries. He said.
Verma said he was taken to a government hospital here. The official said two other accused were also arrested from Dolore, one from Dholpur in Rajasthan, two from Delhi and one from Khorai town in Sagar district of parliament. He said to them.
The police official said that the main accused is a history writer who was released from prison in June this year in connection with a murder case. After the murder, the police announced a reward of 30,000 rupees for any information leading to the arrest of the main accused and 10,000 rupees for everyone else in the case, he said.
