The Texas Super Kings (TSK) defeated the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) comprehensively by 69 runs at the 2023 Major League Cricket (MLC 2023) unveiling ceremony at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
Los Angeles Knight Riders captain Sunil Narine won the toss and opted to take part in the first-ever match of the new American Cricket League. They got off to a good start by sacking TSK captain Faf du Plessis for a golden duck in the second half. His opening partner Devon Conway (55), expertly anchored the innings with a well-timed half-century to stabilize the innings after the early strike.
South African batsman David Miller (61) also hit a strong half-century in the middle order as the Super Kings managed a decent total of 181/6 in 20 overs. Lucky Ferguson and Ali Khan hit two wickets each for LAKR in the bowling department.
In response, LAKR’s top order collapsed like a deck of cards and was reeling at 20/4 after 3.1 overs. Andre Russell (55 in 34 balls) hit an aggressive half-century and kept his side in the catch.
Dwayne Bravo knocked him out in the 13th to end his valiant and vain fight over LAKR’s hopes of getting back in the contest. Knight Riders were bowled out for 112 in their 14 overs and lost the match by 69 runs.

Speaking after the game, Texas Super Kings captain Fav de Plessis revealed that it was good to see decent performances from the local players.
He also stressed the importance of their performance to a team winning the championship. Du Plessis also reserved praise for his compatriot Gerald Coetzee, who took two wickets in the match. He said:
“It’s good to see some local players perform. I always say your players abroad can win a game here and there but to win the competition you need local players to perform. (In Coetzee) he’s a really exciting talent.”
“He is one of those prospects that we hope will play all three formats for South Africa. A fast, good and aggressive South African player like old times.”
