Earlier on Thursday, French President Emmanuel Macron awarded Modi the Legion of Honor, France’s highest honour. On Thursday evening, Modi addressed the Indian community at La Seine Musicale and announced an agreement to use UPI in France, opening up a huge new market for Indian innovation in instant cashless payment. He said that very soon Indian tourists will be able to make rupee payments using UPI from the top of the Eiffel Tower.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the strategic partnership between India and France. Rooted in deep trust and commitment, the two countries cooperate closely across various fields including defence, aerospace, civil nuclear energy, the blue economy, trade and investment, education, culture and people-to-people relations.
