Scott Satterfield’s Cincinnati Bearcats kick off their Big 12 journey against college football powerhouse Oklahoma. The Bearcats joined the conference on July 1 after announcing the move in 2021, ending their 10-season tenure in the American Atlantic Conference.
Satterfield believes that the meeting represents a great opportunity for his team to achieve a historic victory. He recognizes the greatness of the Sooners program and believes it is an honor to host them at Nippert Stadium.
Satterfield said, “I think the history of Oklahoma is what stands out, all the great players over the years, Heisman Trophy winners. They’ve competed at a high level for a long time. … It’s going to be a great atmosphere and a chance for us to get a big win.”

Scott Satterfield about to open his 12-conference season with Oklahoma. “I think the history of Oklahoma is what stands out, all the great players over the years, Heisman Trophy winners. It’s going to be a great atmosphere and a chance for us to get a big win.”
After spending the last four seasons in Louisville, Scott Satterfield is set to begin a new chapter of his coaching career at Cincinnati. His Power Five experience should be crucial to the team as it makes its way to the Big 12.
Having led Appalachian State to one of the most successful transitions from FCS to FBS, he looks like the right man to navigate Cincinnati through the new phase.
Scott Satterfield’s Cincinnati projection starts in the Big 12
No doubt, making it to the Power Five conference for any college football team is a tough task. The Bearcats certainly have a huge hurdle ahead of them in what is their first season in the Big 12 and their first under Scott Satterfield.
Under the guidance of famed defensive coordinator Brian Brown, the Bearcats defensive line instantly ranks among the best in the Big 12. Defensive tackle leadership Dontay Corleone could be vital to the team as it battles into a new era.
Quarterback Emory Jones, on the other hand, is harnessing the experience to make a huge improvement on the Bearcats’ offense. However, it should be noted that he is surrounded by an unproven group of potential customers, whose performance cannot be accurately predicted.
While Scott Satterfield’s squad includes talented players with plenty of experience on defense, he has a history of dealing with injuries to key playmakers. This could expose them to a lack of depth, especially in a demanding conference like the Big 12.
The Bearcats also have a rough start to life in the Big 12, as they have to play the Oklahoma Sooners and BYU Cougars in their first two games. This can make or break their confidence going through the season. If Cincinnati can successfully navigate through the early part of their schedule, they will be rewarded with promising prospects through to the end.
