Due to the unavailability of electricity, residents led by Deputy Mayor Rajesh Mehta locked down the Bigli Nigam Sub-District Office in Gas Mandi, Ambala on Thursday. They raised slogans against the government of Haryana and Bigli Nigam, claiming that there is no power supply for the last five days.
Police arrested Mehta and other people for blocking the road and closing the branch office. Residents complained that due to the lack of electricity, the water supply was turned off at the Public Health Department.
The demonstrators also said they had to travel a long distance to fetch drinking water. Mehta complained that there was no drinking water in his ward since the power went out five days ago.
After a call from Bigley Council, a police team led by the Social Housing Organization made an appeal to the protesters to clear the road where they were sitting in Al Dhafra. The police then detained the deputy mayor and several others and released them in the evening
