Mark Wood is not only an incredibly fast player but his England team mates have also described him as a fantastic figure. His press conferences were often hilarious, and compatriot Ollie Robinson has now claimed he keeps the dressing room atmosphere lively too.
Naturally, there is a lot of pressure with big series like Ashes 2023 underway and players can sometimes get nervous before the start of such huge matches. However, Robinson feels that Wood was able to bust the nerve bubbles with his funny actions.
In his column for Wisden, Robinson explained how Wood walked around the dressing room like a dog before the Ashes Test. he wrote:
“Woody’s just got this crazy, unique energy. There’s no one else like him. You think he’s drunk half the time, but he doesn’t touch a drop. Mind you, this is a guy who, 10 minutes before we walked out, literally at 10:50 in the morning, was On all fours he barked at the changing room floor and said, “There is a dog in the dressing room. There’s a dog here, guys…”

Ollie Robinson was also intrigued to see Mark Wood’s blazing pace in the Third Ashes Test at Headingley. In the aforementioned column, he explained how he felt as a player during his explosive bouts.
“I’ve never seen a mascot like Woody that first morning. After the first time I went to my good leg, standing no more than 15 yards behind Johnny (Bairstow, the English wicket-keeper), thinking, literally, ‘This is the fastest thing I’ve ever seen,'” Ollie Robinson explained.
“It was insane. I felt like if they hit the ball more than a meter over my side it would be a certain bound, and the fact that he was constantly getting shape and movement on it too – at that speed – was just unbelievable bowling.”
Mark Wood put in an impressive all-round performance in the third Ashes 2023 Test at Headingley, even winning the man-of-the-match award. The pacer scored figures of 5/34 and 2/66 with the ball, while also scoring 40 runs from just 16 balls in both innings, to help England to a three-wicket victory.
The victory put the hosts back in the series after they had lost their first two Tests.
