Philadelphia Phillies rookie Yohan Rojas is set to make his Major League Soccer debut after being promoted by the club. While the call-up, unfortunately, comes on the heels of an injury to outfielder Christian Bacci, he will be given a chance to prove what he can do at the MLB level.
The 22-year-old from San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic, is expected to play on the shortstop platoon with quarterback Brandon Marsh. Johan Rojas will likely make his MLB debut sometime this weekend when the Philadelphia Phillies resume their regular season against the San Diego Padres.

“According to my source: #Philadelphia #Phillies prospect Yohan Rojas is a 22-year-old outfielder who hits .308 with 9 HR, 45 RBIs, and 30 stolen bases from #Readingfightin AA being called up to the Majors #MLB #Licey” — mikedeportes
Rojas joined the Phillies as part of the 2017 International Signing Class, working his way up the ranks as a prospect. He entered the 2020 season as the No. 11 prospect in the Phillies organization, and has remained in the top 10 ever since.
Speed may be his number one trait, something the Philadelphia Phillies hope he can provide for the lineup. Throughout his 430 games at various minor league levels, the dynamic young outfielder has recorded 159 stolen bases.

While his speed and defense are his main strengths, Rojas has been a solid lead this season with Double-A Reading. Through 76 games this season at the Double-A level, Johan Rojas has produced an impressive . 306 batting average with nine home runs and 45 RBI. He also recorded 30 stolen bases this season, which is not surprising given his track record.
The increasing number of injuries for the Philadelphia Phillies is the reason behind the promotion of Johan Rojas
While it may only be a matter of time before Rojas is promoted to the MLB, the recent injury has dealt the depth player Christian patch which was placed retrospectively on the IL with right elbow irritation. Although Batch has been a regular starter for the Phillies, it’s just another game on the sidelines during an injury-plagued 2023 season.
Heading into the 2023 regular season, the Philadelphia Phillies were without two standouts: Bryce Harper and Rhys Hoskins. Harper, who has since returned to the lineup, has been recovering from Tommy John surgery, while Hoskins will be out of the lineup for the entire season with a torn ACL.
