Because of the unprecedented increase in the water level of the Yamuna and Hendon rivers, More than 7,200 people have been affected in Gautam Buddha Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh, according to officials. About 6,000 head of livestock and 67 villages were affected in the three districts of the district – Sadar, Jawar and Dadri.

About 7,210 people in the region have been affected by the floods. Some 3,610 people have been displaced across all three districts. About 5,974 animals have been displaced. A senior district administration official said 53 villages were affected by floods due to the Yamuna River and 14 villages due to the Hendon River.

The total area affected by floods in the region is 1,390 hectares. There are eight medical teams providing antivenoms and essential medicines to people affected by the floods. There are 17 flood hotspots in the district – seven in Sadar Tehsil, and five each in Dadri and Jawar. NDRF, SDRF, PAC and police teams are participating in flood relief rescue work. There are 13 shelters established in the area, and continuous fogging and cleanliness are ensured, the official said, adding that 15 boats, 30 boatmen, 30 divers and six motor boats are available in the area.

The official also said that the water level of the Yamuna River at Okhla Dam in Noida on Thursday reached the danger level of 200.60 meters at 5 pm on Friday. “According to the indications, the water level in Yamuna is expected to remain stable,” he added.
