The Varanasi Court on Friday ended its arguments over a petition by the Hindu side seeking direction to conduct a “scientific survey” of the entire Gyanvabi Mosque buildings by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
The court set July 21 to pronounce judgment on the petition. The petition was filed in May this year by five women who had earlier sought permission to pray at Shringar Gauri Stahl within the shrine complex.
It was in response to the earlier petition that the Civil Judge (Supreme Division), Varanasi, ordered a video examination which ended on 16 May last year.
A structure—purportedly “rolling” on one side and “fountaining” on the other—was found on the premises of the mosque.
In the petition seeking direction to conduct a scientific survey of the buildings, the Anjuman Mosque Committee of Intezamiyya lodged an objection. “District Magistrate Ajaya Krishna Vishvisha has kept his order,” said Special Advocate Rajesh Mishra, who is representing the state in the case.
