With conflicting dates on which pilgrims are supposed to return and foreign dignitaries arriving for the G20 meetings in Ahmedabad, the police decided to keep heavy vehicles such as luxury buses away from the airport to avoid traffic jams.

The decision came during a meeting of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Gujarat Hajj Committee officials and volunteers on July 11, according to a statement issued by the committee.

The committee also asked the pilgrims’ relatives to come to the airport in small cars and in smaller numbers. This arrangement will be in effect between July 14 and August 2, when the last flight with pilgrims is scheduled to arrive.
