External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday met with senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi and discussed outstanding issues related to peace and tranquility in the border areas.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the ASEAN Regional Forum here. “Just concluded a meeting with Director of the Office of the CPC Central Committee of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi,” Jaishankar said on Twitter.
Jaishankar said he discussed the outstanding issues of peace and tranquility in the border areas. “Our conversation also covered the East Asia Summit/ARF agenda, BRICS and the Indo-Pacific region,” he said.
India has been locked in a military confrontation with China for more than three years, with Jaishankar claiming it to be the most complex challenge of his long diplomatic career.
Wang, the former Chinese foreign minister, is attending the ASEAN Plus meetings in Jakarta as the current foreign minister, Chen Gang, is not feeling well.
