Jaspreet Bumrah, who could make up India’s campaign in the next 50-plus World Cup, is close to regaining full fitness and is in line for a tour with India’s white ball team in the T20Is in Ireland next month. The player, who is currently training at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, is gradually increasing his workload and so is Shreyas Iyer, who has resumed batting.

Bumrah, who had back surgery in March, resumed bowling last month after undergoing successful NCA rehab. His rehabilitation program has continued under the watchful eyes of BCCI’s head cricketer VVS Laxman, and he bowls full choke at the net, fielding 8-10 overs.

While the selectors and the team management were looking to include Bumrah in the Asian Cup in September, the progress he has made in the past two weeks means he can travel to Ireland with a second-string Indian team. It is understood that a decision on this will be made in the coming days.

With no competitive cricket behind him since last September, and given the nature of his injury, he is being handled with great care. It was learned that Bumra does not feel any discomfort in the net, as he trains on a daily basis. There are indications that Poumrah may play some practice games in the NBA, which is where the camps are held.

Prashid Krishna, who underwent surgery for a lumbar stress fracture, is known to be recovering well and has resumed bowling. The 27-year-old like Bumrah missed the IPL due to injury and last appeared in a competitive match in August 2022 in Zimbabwe. Since then, he’s had a stress fracture that ended up him having to undergo surgery. Although there were concerns whether he could be fit in time for the World Cup, Prasidh has now resumed bowling as a regular. Although he is not certain for the Tour of Ireland, he is poised to take part in the Asian Cup, which could boost India further.

Since breaking into the Indian team, Prashid has clearly made an impact in the middles with his speed. With opposition teams targeting a second tournament, the addition of Praseid would be a sure boost for India and could change their mix for the World Cup as well. A strikeout, his speed in the middle is seen as an added value as his quick putts were difficult to score with those that could climb awkwardly due to his movement.

Shreyas resumes beating

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer, another mainstay in the lineup, who underwent surgery for a recurring back injury, has resumed batting after completing his rehabilitation. The middle-order batsman missed the IPL after he was injured during the Tests against Australia last February and March. Eyre, like Pomrah, can travel to Ireland.
