When asked about the possibility of any legal action being taken against Venugopal for tying the tiger to his bike, the officer said that no action will be taken against him as there was no criminal intent behind it and the condition of the tiger is stable.

As a new wave of conflicts between humans and leopards erupted in several parts of the country causing anxiety and panic among the people, an encouraging incident emerged from Karnataka where a man saved the life of a ‘dehydrated’ leopard found lying in a field in the scorching heat.

A 25-year-old named Venugopal aka Muttu, from Bagivalu village near Arsikere taluk in Hassan district, spotted the tiger lying unconscious on the corner of a farm on Friday. After observing the big cat for some time, he approached it and realized that it was too cumbersome to move.

Sensing the deteriorating condition of the cheetah, he took some courage and picked up the animal, strapped it to his two-wheeled bicycle and rode towards the village.

Astonished to see Venugopal coming with the tiger tied to his bike, the villagers immediately alerted the forest officials, who tracked him down and then took the sick big cat to a government veterinary hospital in their cars.

Times of India “The tiger is about nine months old and must have lost its way to the village in search of food which has led to dehydration,” DCF Hassan Ashish Reddy was quoted as saying.

When asked about the way Venugopal tied the tiger to his bike and took him to the village, the officer said no action would be taken against him as there was no criminal intent behind it and the condition of the tiger is stable.

“Our staff gave him advice on what to do about noticing wild creatures in the area,” he was quoted as saying.

Conflicts between humans and animals often come to the news. In a related but separate event, people reported seeing a tiger at a school run by Zila Parishad in Bavda village in Palghar, Maharashtra state.

A frequent sighting of a tiger has caused panic in a village in the district as local authorities told residents, especially children and the elderly, not to go out after sunset, officials said on Saturday.

On July 3, a woman was killed by a tiger in Sukhidhang district of Uttarakhand. An official said the incident was reported from Dora village and the dead man was Chandravati. The district administration official added that the tiger attacked some women who were on their way to the forest to collect fodder for their livestock. Chandravati was dragged away by the tiger, the official said, adding that the other women ran away and informed the villagers.
