Director Aneez Bazmee Pyaar’s film To Hona Hi Tha is remembered for the fun on screen chemistry between actors Kajol and Ajay Devgn. However, there were other anecdotes from the group that weren’t as pleasant. Kashmira Shah and Bijay Anand, who played important characters in the film, shared a lot of upset during the shoot and in a recent interview, Shah almost opened himself up. Kashmira shared that in a scene that required her and Bijay’s character to kiss, she was left in an uncomfortable spot and Ajay had to step in. Bijay played Kajol’s love interest in the film and Kashmera played his girlfriend.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Kashmira recalled how Ajay had to step in and tell Bijay to do his job properly as they did several retakes of the kissing scenes. The problem, Kashmira recalled, was that Bijay wasn’t standing up to his mark which led them to shoot him again and again.
Recalling the shoot, Kashmira said, “25 years ago, kissing on screen was very important, but I agreed because a script was needed. But unfortunately that scene took a lot of restorations because it had to be done in a lift and Anand wasn’t.” He does it right. The shot had to be such that Anand’s angle and movement was very important but he kept getting it wrong. Ajay and Kajol felt very uncomfortable because of that and Ajay came to PJ and said, ‘I can’t make this girl do this scene over and over again.’ Why don’t you stand on your sign.’ It was very uncomfortable for them to have me do that so many times, and then make a stand for me. That was a very nice gesture on their part.”
A few days later, Kashmira and Bijay were supposed to shoot in another scene where she had to slap him and that was the time she took him back to him. “And I slapped him hard. Later, he came up to me and said in front of everyone ‘Don’t you know how to cheat with a slap?’ I replied ‘You didn’t know how to cheat with a kiss.’ That was my moment. And the whole unit clapped and I had tears in my eyes,” she recalls.
She also added that PJ threw several tantrums on the sets of the film and “the original stars were very touched”. According to her recollection, PJ asked the crew members to put his shoes on his feet.
Bijay has not been seen in any Hindi film after this one and shared in another interview with the publication that this was due to his experience in Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha. He said that his voice in the film was dubbed by someone else and added that the makers of the film did it because they wanted to make the hero sound better.
“When I saw the movie, they (the directors) called my voice another voice that sounded so weak and soft. It was so embarrassing because my voice isn’t that. When I heard that, it hurt so much that this is how this industry works. I felt like I didn’t want to be a part.” From this industry, after which I left the acting industry for 17 years.I had no background in nepotism.I was an outsider and on the right track, but dubbing my voice just to make the hero (Ajay Devgn) sound better than me or whatever the reason made me bummed, “He said.
