A woman in Bulandshahr has been arrested for allegedly killing her two-day-old daughter’s daughter in a private hospital late Thursday night, local police said.
Police said the accused hoped her daughter would give birth to a son, but was disappointed when she gave birth to a second girl, Tuesday.
Based on a complaint filed by the father of the child, Danish Khan, the 45-year-old accused, Meena, a resident of Hasanpur locality in Meerut, has been booked on charges of murder, the police said, adding that she was arrested on Friday evening.
The 30-year-old Danish mentioned in his complaint that his wife, 22-year-old Ayesha Khatoon, gave birth to a girl in a private hospital in Bulandshahr. “My mother-in-law visited my wife in the hospital’s intensive care unit on Wednesday morning and I stayed with her. Thursday night, Aisha asked her mother to take the baby out of the intensive care unit to get fresh air. She took my daughter out and the newborn was dead when she came back.”
Danish’s first daughter is two years old. Shilindra Pratap Singh, in charge of Sayana Police Station, said, “Hospital CCTV footage confirmed that Meena had removed the newborn from the ICU. When she returned, she asked the doctor on duty to examine the child. The doctor found the child dead. We have recorded the FIR under Section 302 of IPC (intentional homicide).
Chief Inspector of Police Shlok Kumar said, “The accused has been arrested, but we are continuing our investigation. CCTV footage is also part of our investigation.”
The Social Security Agency said the body had been sent for an autopsy and that the report was awaiting its report, and the report would verify the cause of death.
