Uttar Pradesh has an additional target of 1,44,220 homes to be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin in the current financial year, which brings the total target of homes allocated to the state under the Awas Plus list to 21,68,674.

The construction work is scheduled to be completed by March 2024. The Union Minister for Rural Development on Friday sent a letter to the Rural Development Department of Uttar Pradesh, informing them of the additional target allocation.

PMAY-G started in 2016 and aimed to help eligible rural families to build pucca homes with basic facilities. The initial target was to build 2.95 crore Albuka homes by March 2024.

Initially, the identification of beneficiaries under the scheme was done based on the SECC 2011 Social and Economic Classes Census, officials said, but in 2019 the government decided to conduct an “Awaas+” survey to accommodate eligible beneficiaries who had been excluded from the previous survey.

The Union Ministry has asked the state to sanction homes for eligible families by August 13 as well as set district-wide targets to speed up the allotment process.

With an additional allotment of 1.44 lakh, the state now has an Awas Plus allotment of 21,68,674 homes under PMAY-G.

According to the official record, under the scheme, 34.72 lakh homes have been allocated in Uttar Pradesh since its inception. With the addition of 1.44 thousand homes, the total state appropriation was about 36.16 lakh; Of these, 21,68,674 is the target under the OASPlus list.

Of the total target, about 29.68 thousand homes have been built in the state, officials said, with the rest being built.

A government spokesperson said that Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath had asked for an increase in the allotment, which was approved by the center and 1.44 thousand homes were allotted under the scheme.

Asked about the new allotment, Additional Senior Trustee and Agricultural Production Commissioner Manoj Kumar Singh said, “We will be able to achieve the target in due course, and there will be no problem.”
