Actor Rahul Roy started his career in the Hindi Film Industry by achieving huge success. He starred in Mahesh Bhatt’s musical romantic drama Aashiqui and became an overnight star. However, despite signing 47 immediately after the film’s success, Rahul was unable to score another hit to his name. The only film for the actor to work alongside Aashiqui was the 1992 fantasy-horror-drama Junoon.
Roy, in a recent interaction with Siddharth Kannan, revealed what happened to him after Aashiqui. He said he was willing to “give everything” for his projects but that the filmmakers had “cheated” him. He said when he was offered the role he was promised something else and when he started filming for it, things changed.
The actor said, “Jo kaam merco dena tha, unn logon ne sab le liya (Everything they wanted from me, they took everything), but they didn’t give what I was looking for.” Priyanka Roy, Roy’s spiritual sister, added, “He signed many films back-to-back (after Aashiqui). He’s been very busy. The kind of projects he wanted, the ones that didn’t get done, the outcome was different.”
After Aashiqui, Roy starred in films like Pyaar Ka Saaya, Dilwale Kabhi Na Hare, Jaanam, Gumrah, and Majhdhaar among others. The actor shared that while he was being shown movies, people said to him, “These are great roles, you’ll be recognized for them.” But, “When I started shooting for them, I realized that what they told me was very different from what was going on.”
However, now, three years after suffering a stroke, Rahul Roy is looking for work. During the interview, he exhorted the filmmakers, “I am Rahul Roy and I think I should do some more work. I urge you to give me work and I will be very grateful to you. I will definitely do a great job for you guys.”
