Khan was convicted by an AML MP here last year in another 2019 hate speech case that was registered after he delivered a speech to a public meeting in Khattanagaria village of Melak Kotwali district.

A Parliamentarian/MLA court here on Saturday sentenced prominent Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan to two years in prison in the case of inflammatory speech during the 2019 general elections. Bansal Khan was found guilty by Judge Shoupt and sentenced to two years in prison. He also imposed a fine of Rs. 2,500 on the former Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

The case was registered against Khan during the 2019 Lok Sabha general election for allegedly making a provocative speech during a rally in Dhamora district on 8 April that year.

Khan was convicted by an AML MP here last year in another 2019 hate speech case that was registered after he delivered a speech to a public meeting in Khattanagaria village of Melak Kotwali district.

He was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, after which he was expelled from the UP Council.

In May of this year, the Sessions Court overturned the lower court’s ruling.
