According to the victim’s father Ranganath, Shashank was in love with a girl of his kin from Mysuru.
In a gruesome incident, an 18-year-old college student was kidnapped and set on fire in the outskirts of Bengaluru in Karnataka on Saturday.
The victim, Shashank, was taken to the city’s Victoria Hospital and is currently in critical condition.
He is a resident of RR Nagar, Bengaluru and is a first-year Computer Science (CS) student at ACS College, according to the police.
According to his complaint, Shashank was dropped off at school by his father, but later left the campus as his lessons were cancelled. As he was heading towards the bus stop, seven people forcibly dragged him into their car and drove him to the outskirts of the city near the Kaniminike toll square and set him on fire.
According to the victim’s father Ranganath, Shashank was in love with a girl who was his relative from Mysuru.
Shashank had arrived home on July 3, which was contested by family members on both sides. A few days later, on July 10, the girl’s parents broke into the boy’s house and took her away, warning Shashank.
One of the seven men, is the main accused Manu has been identified. He was the uncle of Shashank and the girl.
“The relationship has been going on for one year. Manu told us we will solve it amicably. But he came and said he will burn you in petrol and he will burn you,” said the victim’s father.
He added, “After Manu and others set him on fire, he sent a post to my sister Gayatri and told her to come soon and save him because they set him on fire.”
Karnataka Home Minister G Parmeshwar sought a report on the incident and assured that the culprits would be caught and punished soon.
“I will seek a report on the incident and instruct the officials to arrest and punish the culprits,” Parmeshwar said.
