A constable and three gram guards of Gram Rakshak Dal (GRD) attached to Gir Somnath Police Station in Sutrapada have been arrested for allegedly selling a consignment of liquor, seized from a vehicle during a vehicle check, to a local resident. getaway and let the accused go.
Constable Bhavsinh Parade was arrested after surrendering to the police on Saturday night in connection with a case registered against him and others under the Gujarat Prohibition Act. He appeared before the examining magistrate in Sutrapada later on Saturday evening and was sent to remand for two days.
“The police constable has been on the run since a case was registered against two GIS guards at Sutrapada Police Station on July 3 and his name appeared in the case during the investigation. In the meantime, he has shifted non-Somnath area and court hearings for his pre-emptive bail,” said Nangi. Vaghela, Assistant Police Inspector (PSI) Nangi Vaghela, in charge of Sutrapada Police Station: “But his plea was rejected by the court and he eventually surrendered.”
This brought the number of those arrested in the case to five. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by PSI Vaghela arrested Dinesh Solanki (28) and Vijay Kamaliya (33) – two GRD guards attached to Sutrapada Police Station – while the duo were handling a plastic bag behind Dak Bungalow, a guest house in the village of Panchayat. Prachi late on the 3rd of July.
Solanki and Kamalikia were arrested from the spot after the bag found in their possession was found packed with 14 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 5,600. They were later arrested after a case was registered against two GRD guards under Gujarat Prohibition Act on the basis of a complaint filed by Rajni Morey, another constable working at Sutrapada Police Station.
According to the FIR, the three house guards and a police constable seized the IMF consignment while they were doing a random vehicle check in Prachi village on the night of June 28. The matter was exposed on July 3 when a team led by PSI caught them in the act at the location where they had hidden the shipment of liquor, which police said they had seized in the name of Dimple.
“During the investigation, Solanki and Kamalia said that they had sold some IMFL bottles to one of Himal Tanna, a local smuggler from Prachi. They also said that Yakhotra and Parad were also part of the team that seized the liquor shipment from a vehicle. So, Yakhotra and Tana were also arrested by us.
Sutrapada PSI said the three GRD guards have been deployed in Prachi to ensure the smooth movement of vehicular traffic on the coastal highway. However, none of them were officially on duty when they began to inspect the vehicle and seized the shipment of liquor. As Vaguela said, the police constable was not on duty,” adding, “It appears that the accused GRD guards and police constables left the driver of the vehicle in which the IMFL shipment was being transported without informing him to the police station.”
The Secretary-General said that strict action will be taken against all those involved in the case. We will begin the administration’s proceedings against the policeman as well as an investigation into his role in the criminal case against him. For the GRD guards, we have no choice but to terminate their services,” said Manoharsinh Jadeja, Superintendent of Police (SP) at Gir Somnath, adding, “By taking firm action, we want to give a clear signal that no one involved in illegal activities will be spared.”
He added that the police will also investigate how and by whom the GRD guards and police confiscated the liquor shipment. The PSI said the three GRD guards and Tana were released on bail while the police constable remains in police custody.
