Legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger backed his former club to win the Premier League title next season. The retired French coach, who coached the Invincibles team to a historic title without defeat during the 2003/2004 season, believes that the club is capable of defeating defending champions Manchester City.

Wenger has also praised the north London stadium for its transfer activity this summer, insisting the new signings will help Arsenal lift the title next season.

The French told Eurosport:

“Arsenal are now in a good financial position and have bought what they think will win the championship. I think we will win the championship, it’s that simple. I have less doubts about Arsenal than cycling today.”

Arsenal are close to ending their 19-year wait for the Premier League title during the 2022/23 season under Mike Arteta. The north London side dominated the top spot for the majority of the season, putting in some exceptional performances.

However, they stumbled into the title race against Pep Guardiola’s side in April 2023 when they suffered a losing streak. As a result, Arteta’s men moved behind Manchester City to second place while the English champions regained first place in the standings.

Arsenal were unable to recover as City continued to show their dominant form in the final stretch of last season. Guardiola’s men clinched the Premier League title again and went on to claim an iconic treble by winning the FA Cup and Champions League as well.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal can challenge for the title again during the 2023/24 campaign.

‘I think it’s a good investment’ – Arsene Wenger gives his take on Arsenal’s transfer activity this summer

The Gunners have been very active in the transfer window this summer. So far, they have acquired the services of Kai Havertz from Chelsea for £65m and the signing of Jurrien Timber from Ajax for around £35m.

They also signed Declan Rice from West Ham United for a club record fee of £105m.

Arsene Wenger has praised his former team for their transfer activity in this window, claiming Arsenal are building a great squad. In the aforementioned interview with Eurosport, the Frenchman said:

“I think it’s a good investment. Overall, I personally think they’ve made good purchases because they’re mature players now, 23,24 and still young, so they can stay together for a few years.”

But he added:

“They will be under more pressure after last year, but they have learned a lot and can prove they can handle that pressure now.”
