The Oppo Reno series has a reputation for constantly pushing the boundaries of design and camera technology with each new device, and the latest additions are no exception. The newly launched Reno 10 Pro and Reno 10 Pro+ are Oppo’s latest flagships that truly capture the pinnacle of the company’s innovation to the masses.

Today, it is common to see smartphones equipped with triple camera setups, even under Rs 10,000. However, many of these options come with primary macro or depth sensors, providing minimal value in terms of photography. And this is where the Reno 10 Pro sets itself apart. It offers an impressive triple camera module with a 50MP wide angle, 32MP telephoto, and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. The camera configuration of the Oppo Reno 10 Pro really improves your photography experience.

I’ve been a strong advocate of including telephoto lenses in mid-range phones. I am really happy that Oppo Reno 10 Pro comes with a 32MP telephoto lens. I have been testing the latest Oppo phone for almost 2 weeks now. Read on to discover more about my experience as I tested the device across different metrics. Can it stand the test of time? Let’s find out.

What’s the deal with the design?

Design is the defining factor of any smartphone, and Oppo has done a commendable job with the Reno 10 Pro. While a metal frame could have made the Reno 10 Pro feel more premium, the curved glass sandwich design with a color-matching plastic frame paired with a curved screen works wonders. All of these elements blend seamlessly to create a sleek look, providing a wide grip to hold the device without a cover.

The phone comes in two colors – glossy purple and silver gray, and I tested the purple variant which also hides fingerprints and smudges to some extent.

I like the new camera island that gives the device a premium look. However, it protrudes slightly, which makes the device wobble when placed on a flat surface without a case. The inclusion of an IR blaster was a pleasant surprise, however, a stereo blaster at this price point is a must-have but the Reno 10 Pro doesn’t miss out on the same.

A delightful screen set for binge watching

The Reno 10 Pro has a 6.7-inch 1.5K FHD+ curved OLED display and a fast in-display fingerprint sensor. The Reno 10 Pro’s screen felt a bit better than the Realme 10 Pro+ that I reviewed recently. By default, the display is set to Vivid mode, which as the name suggests offers slightly boosted (saturated) colors. One can always switch to the normal mode for a more vivid-like color experience, while most people including myself prefer the default color tone of the phone.

I loved how dark it gets in low light (it doesn’t hurt the eyes while scrolling through social media in the middle of the night) and even the sunlight clarity is almost as good as most flagship offerings, making it a great phone for streaming content and even light gaming. The edges are almost negligible, which makes it a useful smartphone screen.

Peak camera performance

The Reno 10 Pro is an all-in-one camera-centric device with a 50MP primary camera, a 32MP telephoto lens, and an 8MP wide-angle lens. On top of that, the 32MP selfie camera is probably one of the best front-facing cameras I’ve tested so far. Even in challenging lighting conditions, I felt the Reno 10 Pro’s selfie camera was ahead of the competition.

Despite having an excellent primary shooter, the telephoto lens takes center stage on the Reno 10 Pro. However, with only 2x optical zoom, it’s somewhat limited, especially when compared to the more expensive Reno 10 Pro+ which features a periscope zoom lens – my personal favourite – which supports up to 120x digital zoom. However, thanks to the high-resolution 32MP sensor on the Reno 10 Pro, even photos taken with the telephoto lens display impressive detail, compared to those taken with the primary camera.

While it takes excellent shots at 0.6x, 1x, and 2x modes, I felt that sampling at 5x and 20x isn’t practical because it lacks detail and appears blurry most of the time. The selfie camera has one of the best post-processing I’ve seen on any phone at this price range, and even full-length shots in low light look sharp and retain plenty of detail with low noise, true color accuracy, and skin tone.

Take a look at some unmodified camera samples from the Reno 10 Pro.

Performance: Not their strongest suit

Reno 10 Pro is based on the Snapdragon 778G chip with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. While the phone had no problems handling everyday tasks like web browsing, social media apps, and some light gaming, this phone just didn’t cut it for heavy use.

I was a fan of ColorOS but not the bloatware that the Reno 10 Pro packed. However, the promised 4-year software support should be reassuring for users who plan to use this device for a long time.

All-day battery life

Despite packing a smaller 4,600mAh battery, the Reno 10 Pro is a device with all-day battery life, and the 80W fast charging is a welcome step up. Despite using the device on the Jio 5G network for nearly five hours a day, the phone can easily provide more than five hours of screen on time. While it’s not the best battery life I’ve experienced on a phone in this class, it’s not the worst either.

Verdict: Excellent looks and exceptional cameras

Oppo Reno 10 Pro has a few standout features such as a dedicated telephoto lens, premium looks, and even a long battery life. Likewise, it is also missing some essential features like stereo speakers setup. Despite it being somewhat pricey for what it offers, I feel many may appreciate what the Reno 10 Pro has to offer.

For me, who spent a lot of money on the Galaxy S23 Ultra just for the telephoto lens, the Reno 10 Pro is a winner. My favorite recommendation would be a mid-range phone with an excellent camera setup.
