With the 2023 MLB Draft in the books, fans can look forward to a slew of new players drafted by their favorite team. Some of these players are coming from college, and some of those players are coming from high school.
Of the 608 players named in Seattle, 113 of those players were high school students. The highest selected high school player was Max Clark, the number three pick going to the Detroit Tigers.

One of the reasons high school players recruit so much is because of their eligibility. High school students are eligible for the project immediately after graduation. College players are eligible after their third year or upon reaching the age of 21. Junior college players must play for one year before they are eligible.

If a high school player raises a front office enough, he’ll try his draft. They don’t want to wait years for a player to become eligible again.
LSU dominated the draft title as teammates Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews were selected first and second overall. The Pittsburgh Pirates received one of the best guns in the draft while the Washington Nationals received one of the best players overall.
Eleven high school players were selected in the first round alone. 113 high school players have been selected overall, making five more players selected than last year’s draft.
This year’s draft was among the heaviest draft seasons ever. There was almost no bad selection in the first round with the amount of draftable talent. Baseball will be in good hands with these predictions going forward.
