Pune City Police has arrested a youth who allegedly attacked a motorist with a knife simply because he honked the horn after he saw the youths lighting firecrackers on the road. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Friday near Qureshi Masjid in Camp Pune area.

The man driving the car – Salim Hussain Qureshi (52) – who lives in Deccan Tower in Bonny camp, filed the FIR in this case at the Askar police station on Saturday.

The police arrested the assailant – Ayaan Qureshi, 20, who lives in Pembura, Buna camp. According to the complaint, Salem was driving his car, when he was near Qureshi Masjid, he started honking at Ayan who was lighting firecrackers on the road. It was at this time that Ayan lost his temper and allegedly yelled at Salem for honking, the police said, adding that he even attacked him with a sharp knife. Salem was injured in the accident.

The police arrested Ayan under sections 307 (attempted murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 504 (willful insult with intent to breach the peace) of the Indian Penal Code.
