Sergio Busquets has indicated that his visit to Inter Miami last summer with Barcelona played a role in his decision to join the American team.

“This is a special and exciting opportunity that I am very excited about. I am looking forward to this next step in my career with Inter Miami.”

“I was impressed by the club when I came with Barcelona last year and I am now happy and ready to represent the club myself. I can’t wait to help achieve the success that this ambitious club seeks to achieve,” said Busquets.

The legendary midfielder arrives in the USA after 15 stellar seasons at Spotify Camp Nou. Overall, he made 722 appearances for a team Blograna, recording 18 goals and 45 assists. He won nine La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey titles and three UEFA Champions League titles, among other titles.

Busquets, 35, has also made 143 appearances for Spain, lifting the 2010 FIFA World Cup and 2012 UEFA Euro with his country.

Sergio Busquets announced back in May that he would leave Barcelona when his contract expired on June 30 this year. And in a video clip, he sent his farewell message to the club, saying (quoting the Guardian):

“It’s time to announce that this will be my last season with Barcelona. It’s been an unforgettable journey. I’ve always dreamed of playing in this shirt and in this stadium and the reality has surpassed all my dreams.

“I would not have believed it if you told me when I arrived as a young player that I would play 15 seasons for the best club in the world and pass 700 games. It was an honor, a dream, a source of pride and it meant everything to defend and represent this badge for many years. Although it wasn’t a decision Easy, I think it’s about time.”

Busquets notably joined fellow Barcelona legend Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. The duo is expected to make their debut in the Herons’ Major League Soccer (MLS) competition against Charlotte FC at home on August 21.
