WWE fans took to Twitter to express their excitement after an absent superstar hinted that they might be about to return to the ring.

On Monday, Aliyah thanked the fans for their messages of support and stated that she “can’t wait to get back on SmackDown.” The 28-year-old has not appeared on WWE TV since suffering an injury in September 2022.

Alia’s post was met positively online, with several Twitter users letting her know how they felt about her potential comeback:

Although Alia was a member of the SmackDown roster prior to her injury, the one-time Women’s Tag Team Champion is not currently assigned to the brand. In the storyline, she was declared a free agent after the 2023 WWE Draft in May.

USA Network, the television broadcaster for RAW in America, informed Aaliyah that she was welcome to return to the red brand. The former NXT star jokingly asked the account if he had the power to make WWE’s creative decisions:

Many fans also tweeted to Aliyah reminding her of how much the WWE Universe has missed her over the past year:

Alia posted two wrestling training videos to her Instagram account in February, suggesting that she had been ready to return for several months.

Why didn’t Alia appear on WWE TV?

On September 12, 2022, Alia suffered rib and shoulder injuries during a match alongside Raquel Rodriguez against Dakota Kai and IYO Sky on RAW. She continued to wrestle for the rest of the 12-minute match, which saw Damage CTRL (Kai and SKY) finishers on Aliyah and Rodriguez with a 14-day title shot.

A month after the match, Aaliyah wrote on Instagram why she was not on TV. She also paid tribute to everyone involved in the tag title meet, including her opponents:

“I must say that my last match was probably one of my most favorite matches,” Alia wrote. “And I want to thank my tag partner Raquel, Damage CTRL, and everyone involved. Yes, I got injured mid-match, but I have this intense gratitude toward the accident because I felt like it pulled out a version of me that I never knew existed. “Go on!” I remember thinking. “I never get opportunities like this,” another voice in my head shouted.

Aliyah added that she felt “indestructible” from wrestling through injuries until the end of the match. At the time, she wasn’t sure what the future held or how long she would be out of work.
